Good afternoon all and welcome to July’s edition of The Midweek drink.
For the past four weeks, this nation has come together to watch our Young Lions play their hearts out to reach the Euro 2020 finals; and even though they couldn’t lift the cup, they should hold their heads up high for achieving such a feat that hasn’t happened since 1966. So with the Euros now finished, we can look forward to another sporting event: Tokyo Olympics.
On this week’s Midweek Drink, I have been given the chance to review for the first time a non alcoholic tequila flavoured beer called Esmeralda.
Esmerelda has an ABV of 0.5%, produced in a 330ml bottle and has the following ingredients: water, hops, malt, wheat, oats, yeast, potassium sorbet and mockingbird spirit.
Esmerelda is brewed by Fortitude Non Alcoholic Drinks Ltd in collaboration with Mockingbird.
This is a vegan friendly and gluten free beverage.
This non alcoholic tequila flavoured beer has a clear golden colour that glistens beautifully as I pour into a glass; with a constant flow of carbonation rising to the top and a very thin head that dissipates quickly.
As soon as I raise the glass to my nose, I am instantly hit with an aroma of blueberries which was quite odd; but this could be due to the mockingbird spirit fusion (I’m no expert on such beverages so don’t flame me for this!).
Very light on the palette, refreshing with hints of blueberries (again) and a subtle bitter aftertaste which I can only imagine comes from the tequila.
