Good afternoon, all! Welcome to the 66th edition of The Midweek Drink. On this week’s edition, I shall be reviewing a Sour Pale Ale brewed by Tempest Brewing Co., known as Drop Kick Sour Pale Ale. Now that St. Patrick’s Day has come and gone, it’s time to get ready for Mother’s Day. So maybe spoil your mum with flowers; chocolates, a bottle of Opia Organic Rose or a bottle of Teetotal G ’n’ T.
We are also pleased to announce two new drinks on our store: Ridgeside Brewery Nothing But The Rain Pale Ale 0.5% & Peroni Libera 0.0%.
So with the announcements done, let’s crack on with the drink!
A brief history of Tempest Brewing Co.
The roots of Tempest Brewing Co. began to grow during the 90s. Gavin, a trained chef, discovered a passion of brewing after finishing university. During this time, Gavin decided to travel to British Colombia, Canada, where he met co-founder Annika, who was traveling from New Zealand. Fast-forward to 2010, Gavin decided he wanted to start his own brewery in his homeland, Scotland. Since then, the brewery has won many awards including Scottish Brewery of the Year 2016 and listed in the Top 100 Best Breweries in the World.
Three senses and a beverage
Drop Kick Sour Pale Ale comes in a 330ml bottle, vegan friendly and is alcohol-free (0.5%). This Sour Pale Ale contains: Water, Barley, Wheat, Hops and Yeast.
So let’s begin with the colour. When you begin to pour, you unveil a hazy, blonde colour with highly active carbonation and a very minimal, thin white head. What kind of aroma can I pick out from this pale ale? Well, as stated on the bottle’s label, you do get notes of tropical fruit; the pineapple is most notable. For the taste and body: it starts of with an enjoyable sourness that’s not to overpowering, that blends very well with the hops. It’s also light bodied, dry and very refreshing!
