Welcome to the 28th edition of The Midweek Drink, and what a week it is going to be! The bells of London will chime across the city this Saturday to celebrate the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. But if you’re not that interested in that lovey-dovey stuff and more of a football fanatic, then the FA Cup Final is for you. So a double-whammy of celebrations on one day to suit both the romantic and sporty types.
Actually, why don’t we make it a triple-whammy of celebrations: the arrival of new drinks on our store. As you may have already seen, on the site or newsletter, we are pleased to announce three new beverages: Big Drop Brewing CO. Sour (0.5%), Botonique Dry White and Schofferhofer Grapefruit Beer (2.5%).
So for today’s choice of beverage, I have picked another Portuguese beer - a non-alcoholic black beer - that has been brewed by Unicer Brewery since 2000: Cheers Petra.
A brief history of Unicer Brewery
As mentioned above, Cheers Petra is brewed by Unicer Brewery which was founded in 1890 in Portugal. It is the largest Portuguese beverage company and exporter of beers, soft drinks, waters, wines and a ciders, with their most popular being Super Bock. Over the years, the European, African and Angloan markets has helped Unicer grow in strength, allowing the company to carry on their commercial activity across 50 countries!
Three senses and a beverage
The ingredients used are: Water, Barley Malt, Unmalted Cereals (Maize & Barley), Carbon Dioxide, Colour: E150C, Hops.
This black beer comes in a 330ml dark brown bottle with an alcohol content of 0.5%.
Now, this beer - as stated earlier of being called a black beer - has a mahogany colour with medium carbonation and a brown, light frothy head. It has a very light body, with a roasted malty, caramel aroma and a bitter taste that is then welcomed by a sweet, malty finish.
